Putting an EMR System in place takes a lot more than consulting
with just one vendor. Before you start planning your EMR solution,
consider these questions:
- Who will support your computer network if there’s an
error? How long can you operate your day-to-day business if
your server is down? Do you have a data backup plan?
- How will your existing paper medical records be integrated
with your new EMR system? Are you compliant with the stringent
industry regulations and mandates?
- How will data be transferred between multiple office
locations? Is your Internet speed fast enough to handle
imaging files like X-rays or other scans? How will you handle
working remotely?
- Do you have peace of mind that you are properly and
legally maintaining the security and confidentiality of your
patient’s data?
- How are you handling your time & expense reporting?
- Are you worried your employees will be surfing
inappropriate or productivity wasting sites like Twitter or
Facebook on your time?
You need a LOCAL group of partners to support your
EMR efforts through proactive planning, implementation
assistance, and continuing post project support.

What is the HITECH ACT?
On February 17, 2009 a $787 Billion, the
American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 aka
“the Stimulus Bill,” was signed into law by the
federal government.
Included in this law is $19.2 Billion which is
intended to be used to increase the use of
Electronic Health Records (EHR) by physicians and
hospitals; this portion of the bill is called, the
Health Information Technology for Economic and
Clinical Health Act, or HITECH Act.
The government firmly believes in the benefits
of using electronic health records and is ready to
invest federal resources to proliferate its use.
Are you going to leave this
money on the table?
